Terms you may hear during a Mediation and what they mean

Opening Statements

A speech or presentation where each party to a Mediation explains their position.

Caucus

A private, confidential meeting.

Midpoint

The numerical halfway point between a demand and an offer.

Bracket

A high to low range of numbers where one party agrees to move to a specific number in the range if the other side agrees to move to the other number in the range.

Impasse

The term used when parties cannot reach an agreement and want to end the Mediation.
