Introducing Our Holiday Series: Navigating Conflict
By Silvia A. Brett, Esq., attorney and Florida Supreme Court Circuit Civil Certified Mediator in collaboration with Dr. Rebecca Tuttle, PsyD.
The holidays are often described as the most wonderful time of the year, but for many families, they can also be the most stressful, resulting in increased tension and conflict. Between busy schedules, travel, family dynamics, financial strain, evolving values, and old patterns that resurface around the dinner table, it’s easy for many people to find themselves tense, frustrated, and reacting in ways they may regret in the long term.
As a probate and estate planning attorney, I’ve seen firsthand how unresolved family conflict can ripple far beyond a holiday disagreement and as a mediator, I know how powerful conflict resolution can be.
Many times, hurt feelings or unspoken resentments find their way into long-term decisions like estate plans, inheritances, and caregiving arrangements. That’s why I’m teaming up with Dr. Rebecca Tuttle, a clinical psychologist who deals with family dynamics and emotional regulation on a daily basis, for a new series: “Navigating Conflict During the Holidays.”
Our goal is simple: to help you stay grounded through this season so short term feelings do not find their way into long term decisions.
